What’s Playing at Ann Arbor’s State and Michigan Theaters in February

Between the Michigan Theater and State Theater, Ann Arbor area movie lovers have the chance to see a wide assortment of movies that just can’t be beat. These theaters offer a very diverse selection of movies that ranges from new releases to old classics, foreign films, and independent and art house movies. These theaters truly have something to offer for everyone.

Their February schedules feature many of this year’s Academy Award nominees, including Still Alice, The Imitation Game, Mr. Turner, and Two Days, One Night.

Throughout the month of February, the Michigan Theater will be continuing their series of classic movies from the Film Noir genre. The series started in January and will continue through April, but their February schedule includes film noir essentials such as The Big Sleep (1946) on February 16th and The Killers (1946) on February 23rd.

Can’t get enough of watching cat videos online? You won’t want to miss the Internet Cat Video Festival at the State Theater on February 24th. The videos were chosen by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and include short Vine videos, short films, and more. This festival is the first celebration of cat videos to take place outside of the Internet.

For the night owls, the State Theater has a midnight screening of the cult classic Freaks (1932) on February 21st. Tickets for midnight movies are $8.

The Michigan Theater has a special Valentine’s Day treat just for members with a free screening of Blue Hawaii (1961) starring the one and only Elvis. The movie starts at 7:30 PM, but there will be a special reception from 6:15-7:00 PM with free sparkling wine and chocolate from Schakolad Chocolate Factory. Although the event is free, members need to RSVP by calling (734) 668-8397, extension 24 or sending an e-mail to smadsen AT michtheater DOT org. Once you RSVP, tickets will be mailed to your home address.
