Tips for Finding a Contractor to Work on Your Manufactured Home
When you own a home, whether it’s a traditional site-built home or a manufactured home (like one in one of our HomeFirst™ communities), there will inevitably come a time when you’ll either need to have a repair done or have a home improvement project that you want to do, but it just seems beyond your abilities to do it yourself. Even some of the most dedicated do-it-yourselfers might be hesitant about working with electrical wiring, putting in a new countertop, or doing a major plumbing repair.
But if you need to hire a contractor to make a repair or improvement to your manufactured home, perhaps you’d like to find a contractor who specializes in working on manufactured homes. So, how do you go about finding a contractor for your manufactured home?
A great place to start is by asking your community’s manager if they can recommend someone. They are very knowledgeable about manufactured homes and have likely helped many other residents find contractors for their manufactured homes, so they might have a good idea of which contractors have a good reputation and which ones don’t.
You can always ask your neighbors and friends if there are any contractors they’ve worked with and really liked (or really didn’t like working with, for that matter). And best of all, they might even be willing to specifically show you the work the contractor has done for them so you’ll have a chance to see the quality of their work. Word of mouth is still an extremely effective way of finding out about some of the best (and worst) contractors around!
If all else fails, there’s always the Internet! Doing a Google search for “manufactured home repair” and location of your manufactured home could give you just the results you need. You could also search the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website to find businesses who handle manufactured home repairs and are accredited with the BBB.
