Summer Fun on a Budget in Plymouth
Summer is finally here and now that the weather is starting to warm up again, it’s only natural to want to spend more time getting out and about and enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. But sometimes, you might not have the budget to take a big trip somewhere or maybe you just can’t take the time off of work to travel very far. When this happens, it’s time to look for ways to have fun right in your own backyard.
As a resident of HomeFirst™’s Plymouth Hills manufactured home community in Plymouth Township, you’d never have to look very far for fun things to do in your spare time! Plymouth Township is one of the most exciting areas in Michigan and best of all, there are lots of ways to have fun during the summer without having to spend very much money. Here just a few fun things to do that are either free or very inexpensive.
The city of Plymouth really starts gearing up for the summer season near the end of May with their annual Memorial Day parade and the beginning of their summer “Music in the Air” concert series on Friday nights in Kellogg Park. The “Music in the Air” concert series showcases an excellent variety of local musicians who perform a variety of different styles of music. Whether you’re a fan of pop music, classic rock, oldies, or blues, “Music in the Air” has a little bit of something for everyone. These concerts are free to attend, so grab a blanket to sit on, pack up some snacks, and bring the whole family for a lovely night in the park.
One of Plymouth’s most celebrated events is their annual Art in the Park show, which is held every July. Art in the Park has been a Plymouth tradition for over 30 years and has grown into being the second largest art fair in Michigan. Over 400 artists from all over the country travel to Plymouth to show off their talents and sell everything from paintings to photographic prints, sculpture, jewelry, woodwork, and more. The event’s organizers always make sure there are lots of fun things for kids to do that encourage them to think creatively. At every festival, they have a big mural that kids are encouraged to help create. At least 1,000 kids contribute to this mural every year!
Looking for some good, old-fashioned ways to celebrate the 4th of July? Plymouth is the place to be! Every year, they have their annual 4th of July parade, followed by a traditional community picnic in Plymouth Township park. The city also puts on a spectacular annual fireworks display in Plymouth Township Park, which is not to be missed!
Need something to do on a rainy day? Plymouth’s historic Penn Theater shows second-run hit movies every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at bargain prices. Tickets are just $3, making it a much more affordable option than visiting a regular multiplex. Be sure to keep an eye out for their special summer series of family-friendly movies! Or for a special treat, you might want to visit the Summer Drive-In at the USA Hockey Arena.Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids between the ages of 4 and 12, but the great thing about going to the drive-in is that you get to see two movies for the price of admission. A trip to the drive-in is definitely the kind of experience your kids will remember for years to come!
