Strong Community Support for Flat Rock Community Schools

Trying to find the right school for your child can be tough. Of course, you’ll want to find a school where students have a history of scoring highly on tests. But since involvement in extracurricular activities is something many colleges look for, it’s important to consider what kinds of clubs and teams a school has for students to get involved with. Another very important thing to consider is the level of support the local community has for a school. When a school has lots of support from the community, the school is better able to provide high quality resources and opportunities for students.

Children in HomeFirst™’s  Deerfield Estates manufactured home community attend Flat Rock Community Schools. Not only do Flat Rock Community Schools rank in approximately the top third of all Michigan school districts, the residents of Flat Rock have consistently shown a great deal of support for this fantastic school system!

Flat Rock residents truly want kids in the city to be able to have access to a great education. Recently, they overwhelmingly voted in favor of passing two bonds to help improve school facilities. These bonds helped to build an entirely new building for Flat Rock Community High School and made it possible for improvements and renovations to be made to all schools in the district.

When parents and other community members get involved with schools through volunteering, their time, energy, and professional experience can make a big difference to the students. About 1,000 people from the community are registered to volunteer in the classroom and at other school events. Every year, Flat Rock Community Schools organizes events such as Career Day, Arts Day, carnivals, and field days and these sorts of events just couldn’t happen without the volunteers from the community!

Community volunteers are also very enthusiastic fundraisers. Every year, volunteers who participate in organizations like Band Boosters, Athletic Boosters, the PTO, and other parent organizations help to raise over $100,000 for the school!
