Not only do Michiganders have a professional basketball team in Detroit, but we also have two tremendous college hoops team in the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines. Today, let’s get you prepped for the 2014 Spartans basketball season!

A season ago, the Spartans were a heavy favorite to get back to the NCAA Final Four. At one point they were ranked the No. 1 team in the country, and many experts thought they would win the NCAA Championship. While they fell a little short of expectations, they still had a great season. They won the Big Ten Tournament and made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before getting knocked by the eventual champion Connecticut Huskies.

This year, expectations are a little lower, but they are still quite high for coach Tom Izzo’s perennially contending squad. Although the Spartans lost three of their best players from a season ago, including a pair of first round NBA draft picks, the team returns a strong nucleus of talent.

Led by forward Branden Dawson, guard Denzel Valentine, guard Travis Trice, and a promising cast of newcomers, the team hopes to get back to the Final Four for the first time since 2010. To get there, the Spartans will rely on their tenacious defense, outside shooting, and crowd support!

It’s not too late to secure individual or even season tickets for Spartans basketball. Michigan State plays games at home against its biggest rivals, including Michigan, Ohio State and Indiana. All of them promise to be exciting games that go right down to the wire, offering major entertainment for fans of all ages.

If you’ve never been to an MSU basketball game, come out for at least once season! The team plays their home games at the world-class Breslin Center on the Michigan State campus in East Lansing. The arena was recently renovated to make the experience even more enjoyable. From the student section to the general public, the crowd is considered one of the best in the Big Ten, and has helped propel the team to unprecedented success under coach Izzo.
