Renting a Manufactured Home Vs. Renting a Site-Built Home

Your current lease is going to be up soon and it’s time for you to start looking for a new place to live. We’re sure you’re taking a look at lots of other types of rental properties like apartments and regular houses, but have you considered renting a manufactured home? You might think that renting a manufactured home wouldn’t be all that different from renting a regular site-built home, but renting a manufactured home in one of our HomeFirst™ communities has some great advantages over renting a site-built house.

First of all, when you rent a manufactured home in a HomeFirst™ community, you’re welcome to treat your home just like you would if you owned it. Paint the walls, hang things on the walls, do what you want to make it feel at home. If you were to rent a site-built home, you wouldn’t have that kind of freedom. You’d have to get permission from your landlord to make any big changes like painting a room and even if your landlord does approve, you’d very likely still have to undo any changes before you move out or risk losing your security deposit.

Whether you’re renting a manufactured home or a site-built home, one of the biggest benefits of renting is that you aren’t on the hook for handling household repairs that inevitably come up from time to time; your landlord takes care of that for you. But the real difference is that if you’re renting a site-built home and something needs to be repaired, you need to call your landlord, who might live in an entirely different city or even a different state. Not only could your landlord not be local, they might also be hard to reach at certain times of the day. But when you rent a home in a HomeFirst™ community, you’ll have the benefit of having 24-hour on-site management. No matter when something breaks, someone will be there to help you.

Renting a site-built home often also comes with restrictions about pets. Many landlords don’t allow dogs in their homes or have restrictions about what breeds they can be or how big they are. If a landlord does allow pets, they often require pet deposits and charge additional rent each month for each animal you have. HomeFirst™ is a much more pet friendly option! Although our communities do have some breed restrictions and we do charge a minimal deposit for dogs, but if you have another one of our community-approved pets, you don’t have to worry about any extra monthly fees!
