Jackson, Michigan is a city with a lot to offer and a very rich history. Did you know the first coney island hot dog was sold in Jackson in 1914? Jackson was also a major hub in the auto industry, even before car assembly lines made their first appearance in Detroit. There’s always something fun happening around town, too!

Jackson Public Schools are home to some excellent teachers. Maureen Hesslau, a math teacher at Middle School at Parkside, was just named one of the top ten teachers in all K-12  schools in Jackson County!

If your child is interested in the performing arts, Jackson Public Schools have some great programs to offer. On New Year’s Day 2015, the Jackson High School’s Viking Marching Band rang in the new year by traveling to Tampa, Florida to perform in the Outback Bowl halftime show. It was the 4th time in 16 years the Jackson High School Marching Band had the honor of joining other high school marching bands from across the country to make the the Outback Bowl’s halftime show an event to remember! The Jackson High School Choir has recently been teaming up with senior citizens from the Summit Park and Spring Arbor Senior Centers for some truly unique concert performances!

Of course, there are lots of sports teams at Jackson Public Schools! They have teams for volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, baseball and softball, football, and more.

Not only do Jackson Public Schools have plenty of athletic teams to join, there are also award-winning academic teams, too. Just recently, students from Jackson High School and Middle School at Parkside participated in the Academic Games League of America National Tournament and brought back lots of trophies to show for it! Many of their teams and some of their individual members earned very high scores and were ranked some of the top teams in the country.
