October 4: Heritage Festival at the Miller Farm

Take a step back in time with Miller Farm’s Heritage Festival. On October 4th, you’ll have the chance to see Civil War re-enactors and actors portraying President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. Do you make a great apple pie? Enter the apple pie competition for the chance to win $50!

October 11: How-To Halloween

A fun way to encourage and inspire creativity in all age groups! Creative types will be showing off their homemade costumes, decorations, and other Halloween displays. There will also be instructional seminars, DJs, and costume contests. How-To Halloween is on October 11th at the Lansing Center from 12:00 PM-8:00PM, but the event kicks off at 11:00 AM with the 5th annual Lansing Zombie Walk. Admission is $5 per person. Don’t forget to wear your costume!

October 11-12: Apple Butter Festival

The Fenner Nature Center is hosting the 41st annual Apple Butter Festival. Visitors will have the chance to play games, join the pumpkin carving contest, see apple butter being made, try using a cross-cut saw, and enjoy live music. The Apple Butter Festival runs from 11:00 AM-5:00PM. Admission is free, but parking is $5 per car.

October 11-12: Color Cruise and Island Festival

If you want to soak up some Fall color, the Color Cruise and Island Festival in Grand Ledge, MI is the perfect opportunity! You’ll have the chance to take a riverboat trip down the river to bask in all the beautiful scenery. There will also be blacksmithing demonstrations, candle dipping, petting zoo, music, pumpkin painting, and more!

October 18-19 and 25-26: Boo at the Zoo

Put on your costumes and head on over to Potter Park Zoo in Lansing for an afternoon of fun! There will be hayrides, cider and donuts, animal presentations, and of course, the famous Boo Tunnel. Boo at the Zoo runs from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM.

October 23: The Great Pumpkin Walk

Have the kids put on their costumes and bring them over to downtown East Lansing from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM for the Great Pumpkin Walk! More than 50 area businesses will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters during the event.

Are your kids big fans of The Wizard of Oz? Be sure to stop by the Wild Goose Inn! During the Great Pumpkin Walk, the Wild Goose Inn will be transforming itself into the Land of Oz, complete with yellow brick road and munchkins!
