Must-Visit Places Near Independence Commons
One of the biggest advantages to living in our Independence Commons community is that you’ll be just outside of bustling Lansing, Michigan. Independence Commons is located in Potterville, a very short drive from Lansing. Whether you want to live close to Lansing for work or because there’s so many fun things to do there (or both!), Independence Commons is the perfect place to live. You’ll have the benefit of living very close to one of Michigan’s most popular cities, but without having to pay sky-high apartment rentals or pay a fortune for a small 1 or 2 bedroom house.
There’s always something fun to see or do in Lansing. If you’re new to the area and haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Lansing before, here are just a few places you should absolutely make a point to visit:
If you like retro, vintage charm, you’ll love the Old Town neighborhood in Lansing! Not only does it have that great, classic vibe, many of Lansing’s best festivals and events happen here like the Michigan Blues Fest, Oktoberfest, the Old Town Dickens Village, the Lansing Jazz Fest, and so many more.
The Capitol Building
When you live so close to Lansing, you’ve got to take a tour of the Capitol building at least once. It’s one of Michigan’s most iconic landmarks. The building itself is a work of art and really needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
Lansing Lugnuts Games
During baseball season, catching a Lansing Lugnuts game is a fun way to have a night out and best of all, it’s super affordable. Even if you go all out and get tickets in one of the very nice suites in The Clubhouse, where you can get sandwiches, drinks, and desserts, individual tickets are just $22.50. Whether you’re looking to go out with one friend or the whole family, a Lansing Lugnuts game is the sort of event that can fit into any budget.
The Grand River isn’t just nice to look at, did you know you can also take a boat trip down the river? For a different view of the river, you can rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard from River Town Adventures and get a whole new perspective on the city!
Woldumar Nature Center
The Woldumar Nature Center is full of beautiful scenery and fun and educational things to do all year long. If you enjoy hiking, they have five miles of hiking trails to choose from, ranging in length up to 1.6 miles. Woldumar has regular events and camps that are great opportunities for kids to learn more about nature and wildlife. They also host lots of fun community events like the American Heritage Festival and the Run-a-Munk 5K run.
The Michigan State University Campus
As if there weren’t enough fun things to do around Lansing, Michigan State University always has tons of interesting things happening around campus. Even if you aren’t a student, you’re more than welcome to come out and take advantage of all the great things the campus has to offer. You could catch a concert or play at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, tour the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden, get some ice cream from the MSU Dairy Store, or learn more about the universe at the Abrams Planetarium. Of course, you can also take in a football game or cheer on any of MSU’s other sports teams.
