Making New Friends in Your HomeFirst™ Community

One of the hardest things about moving, particularly if you’re moving to a brand new city, is leaving behind the friends and people you knew in your old city. Being in a new city you’re not completely familiar with yet can be stressful enough, but if you’re moving far enough away that you can’t see your old friends all the time anymore, you can start to feel pretty lonely.

When you move into a HomeFirst™ community, you’ll have the benefit of having lots of opportunities to meet people and make new friends. As a new resident of any of our HomeFirst™ communities, one of the best things you can do is keep an eye out for the community-wide events we hold in the clubhouse. You’ll be able to go to things like ice cream socials, coffee and donut breakfasts, holiday parties, bingo nights, potluck dinners, pancake breakfasts, resident appreciation parties, and so much more. These are wonderful ways to meet people from around the community and start making new friends fast.

No matter which of our communities you live in, you’re bound to have plenty of chances to get out and meet other people outside of the community. Since our communities can be found in or very close to some of Michigan’s most thriving locations, you’ll be right in the neighborhood for tons of other local events. The cities of Mount Clemens, Lansing, Jackson, Belleville, Holly, and South Lyon all do a great job of listing all the events and other fun things they have going on around town so it’s easy to find out what’s happening. Not only do these events give you the chance to meet more people in the area, they’re also a great way to explore your new city.

You might also want to consider getting involved with a local organization. One of the best possible ways to meet people in a new area is to get directly involved with the area! Since our communities are full of so many wonderful places and organizations, you might be able to find volunteer opportunities with local schools, libraries, theater groups, museums, and more.

If you’re looking to meet other people in your area who share a particular interest, hobby, or lifestyle, signing up for MeetUp is a great place to start. After all, it’s a lot easier to make new friends when you know you have something in common with a group of people. There, you’ll be able to browse various groups in your area and join any ones that interest you. These groups organize in-person meetups around town so you’ll be able to get out and have fun with your new friends. If you don’t see a group already started for the interest you have in mind, you can always go ahead and start one yourself. If you’re hosting a meetup, you’re welcome to use your community’s clubhouse to accommodate the group!
Living in a community setting is a lot of fun! Even if you don’t know anyone when you move in, you’ll have so many chances to meet new people, you’re bound to have plenty of new friends in no time. Come join the fun! Take a look at the manufactured homes for sale or for rent in our communities and contact us if you’re interested in taking a tour of any of our homes.
