Having Fun While Exploring the Campus of Michigan State University

No matter which of HomeFirst™’s manufactured housing communities you decide to move into, you’ll have lots of opportunities to have fun, learn, work, and grow. All of our communities are located near some of the most thriving and exciting locations in Michigan, including Lansing. Our Independence Commons community is located in Potterville, a very short drive away from Lansing.

Lansing is full of exciting places to visit and fun things to do. Not only is it our state capital, it’s also the home of Michigan State University, one of the top universities in Michigan. Whether you’re a student, alumni, or simply want to stop by to enjoy some of the activities happening on campus, Independence Commons is the place to be!

The campus of Michigan State University is a place with endless opportunities to explore. When you live so close, one of the best things you can do is bookmark their list of on-campus events so you can stay in the loop about what’s going on. These events aren’t just for students, members of the general public are welcome to attend, too. You could stop by to see a movie, listen to some musical performances, check out theatrical performances by MSU students, or maybe even come out for a special lecture.

Want to cheer the Spartans on to victory? You’ll have lots of chances to do that! Keep an eye on their athletics calendar so you’ll know exactly when your favorite college teams will be playing.

If you’re looking to take in a little bit of culture, there are lots of museums and galleries located right on MSU’s campus, like the MSU Museum and the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. If you want to see what some of the students of MSU have been creating, you can visit Gallery 101 and Gallery 114, which are located near the entrance of the Kresge Art Center. The LookOut! Art Gallery also features a lot of artwork by students and faculty and can be found on the second floor of Snyder Hall.

How would you like to get a whole new perspective on the universe? The Abrams Planetarium is an incredible place to learn about the marvels of the universe. Come on by on a Friday or Saturday night or a on a Sunday afternoon for a chance to enjoy one of their public shows in their Sky Theater. During the warmer months, visitors can stop by the MSU Observatory, not far from the Abrams Planetarium, for one of their public observation nights where you can take a look at the sky through one of the observatory’s telescopes.

With all the fun you can have on the Michigan State University campus, you might start to get a little bit hungry. Why not place an order with the MSU Bakery for some delicious cookies, brownies, cupcakes, pie, granola, or bread? Or you could visit the MSU Dairy Store for some delicious ice cream or cheeses. You could also grab a bite to eat at the Union Pizzeria, Serrano’s, Riverwalk Market, or Union Deli.

These are just a few of the fun ways you could spend time on the Michigan State University campus. As a resident of Independence Commons, you’ll have plenty of time to explore everything this campus has to offer.

Not only will you have lots of things to do in the area surrounding cities like Lansing, you’ll have lots of things to do right within the Independence Commons community. This fine community features a swimming pool, 24-hour fitness center, a basketball court, a nature trail, a playground, and more. There’s also our community clubhouse, where we frequently host events for our residents like bingo nights, potluck dinners, holiday parties, and more.
