Going Above and Beyond in South Lyon High Schools

As a parent, it’s completely understandable that you want to make sure your kids have access to the best opportunities they can possibly have. You want them to be able to go to school in an excellent school district full of caring, dedicated teachers who can give them the education they need to get off to a good start in life.

By moving to HomeFirst™’s Woodland Ridge community located in South Lyon, you’ll definitely be making a smart move for your family. Not only has South Lyon been rated as one of Michigan’s safest communities by the FBI, your children will also be able to get an education in one of Michigan’s top school districts. Children in Woodland Ridge are able to go to school in the top-notch South Lyon Community Schools district, which is rated the 29th best school district in all of Michigan.

Not only will your kids be able to get a first-rate education in the classroom, they’ll also have the opportunity to learn important life skills and explore their interests in other ways, too. High school students have lots of opportunities to participate in various sports teams, clubs, unique educational opportunities, and other extracurricular activities.

Many of the extracurricular activities offered by South Lyon High School and South Lyon East High School revolve around building leadership skills, like Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Government. Students with an interest in science might be interested in getting involved with the Robotics Club or participating in the Science Olympiad.

For those who are into the performing arts, they’re welcome to join the drama club, choir, or band. Choir and band are considered co-curricular activities at South Lyon Community Schools, meaning they have classes during regular school hours, but occasionally have events that happen after school or on weekends, such as concerts, competitions, and other performances. These could be nice options for students who want to have the benefits of being involved in extracurricular activities, but might not have as much time available after school because of jobs, homework, or other responsibilities.

If your teen already knows what they want to pursue as a career, they might be able to take classes at the Oakland Technical Campus (OTC). At OTC, students get hands-on training for certain vocations such as welding, marketing, floral design, landscaping, automotive repair, health sciences, and computer maintenance, and more. That way, they graduate from school with some training that will help serve them well as they enter the workforce.

Are sports more up your teen’s alley? There are lots of opportunities to get in the game, too! They have teams for things like cross country, bowling, golf, volleyball, tennis, football, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, and more. They even have an equestrian lacrosse teams, which many schools don’t have teams for.
