Winter is definitely on its way, which means it’s time to start looking for ways to keep busy indoors so you can avoid the cold weather. If you live in our Woodland Ridge community in South Lyon, you’re in luck because there are some great places in the area that have fun activities happening all winter long so you can stay active and have fun, even on the coldest day of the year.
South Lyon Area Recreation Authority
The South Lyon Area Recreation Authority (SLARA) is an amazing place to look for activities for people of all ages at any time of year. The variety of programs and classes you can take through SLARA is very impressive! Kids and teenagers are welcome to sign up for classes to learn sports like volleyball, soccer, basketball, bowling, floor hockey, and more in a non-competitive environment. For kids who know the basics of their favorite sport, they may be able to join a youth athletic league at SLARA. There are also lessons for things like dance, gymnastics, karate, ice skating, and even horseback riding. They can even start learning a different language! If you have a baby or toddler and want to encourage them to take an interest in music, they even have a few classes to help with that!
SLARA isn’t just for kids; they have lots of sports leagues and other classes for adults and teenagers, too. For teens looking to earn some extra money by babysitting, they might be interested in taking a babysitting class to help them learn how to handle taking care of younger kids. You can also take classes in a huge assortment of classes, ranging from ghost hunting to accounting. They also often offer artistic classes like photography and drawing. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy here!
Center for Active Adults
If you are age 50 and up, you may want to join the South Lyon Center for Active Adults. The Center for Active Adults organizes all sorts of activities, trips, parties, classes, groups, and more for South Lyon seniors to enjoy.
