Eternally Optimistic in Clarkston
The Clarkston Area Optimists is an organization that has been serving the youth of the Clarkston community for over 25 years. The club is a branch of Optimist International, which is an association dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids.” By conducting service projects directed at providing a helping hand to the kids in the community, the Clarkston Area Optimists give members the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the next generation.
Throughout the year, the Clarkston Area Optimists drive a number of youth programs including Junior Optimists Clubs in secondary schools, Alpha Clubs in elementary schools and more. They also hold fundraisers, scholarship events, an essay contest and other opportunities to help bring out the best in the Clarkston community kids.
If you would like to participate in any upcoming events, there are plenty to choose from. On Saturday, March 7 you and all your friends can line dance, ride a mechanical bull, eat delicious food provided by Woodshop, and bid on great auction items – all to support the kids in your community. Denim & Diamonds is the event of the year, and you can be a part of it!
Also, if you have an idea or see a need for a project benefitting the kids in your area, the Clarkston Area Optimists are accepting proposals from the community until March 30. Feel free to contact the Optimist Grant Committee for more information. Get your great idea for the community off the ground with the Clarkston Area Optimists!
For the kids in your life, encourage them to sign up for the 2015 Clarkston Area Optimist Oratorical Contest. The deadline is March 19, and the contest will be held at Clarkston Junior High School. This is a great way for kids to earn a scholarship for college, as well as experience speaking in front of people – both are important for later in life.
If becoming a part of an enthusiastic, optimistic group of people sounds like the sort of thing you would like to be a part of, check out your local Clarkston Area Optimists. Meetings are held every Wednesday morning at 7:30 in the Clarkston United Methodist Church on Waldon, and every third Wednesday evening at 7:00 at Buck Shots Restaurant on Gateway Park Drive. The group is always excited to welcome new people and to help them get involved in the many opportunities available to serve the area kids.
