8 Bizarre Holidays You Never Knew Existed
Yesterday was Administrative Professionals’ Day, also known as Secretaries Day or Admin Day. Celebrated every April 23 throughout North America, this unofficial holiday recognizes the work and dedication of administrative assistants, secretaries and other support staff.
If you haven’t been an assistant or worked in a traditional office setting, there’s a decent chance you’ve never heard of Administrative Professionals’ Day. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The truth is, there are tons of unofficial holidays that most people never know existed. Here are some of our favorites:
Squirrel Appreciation Day (January 21)
Squirrels have some annoying tendencies, like darting in front of the road at the worst possible time. But you have to admire their toughness, nimbleness, and resourcefulness. This is a day to celebrate squirrels and maybe even toss them a few nuts.
Get a Different Name Day (February 13)
Do you strongly dislike your birth name? Well, today is the unofficial day to do something about it! Adopt a new name for the day and see if it sticks!
Fragrance Day (March 21)
On March 21, spring is in the air. So, too, is the smell of perfume, cologne and other nose-tingling fragrances. Celebrate today by dousing yourself in a fresh new scent.
National Pretzel Day (April 26)
Soft or hard, big or small – everyone loves pretzels. There’s even a day to celebrate our favorite twisty, salted snacks. Grab your favorite bag of pretzels and partake in the national celebration. Just be sure to keep some water around. Pretzels tend to make you thirsty!
Star Ways Day (May 4)
“May the fourth be with you!” Get it?! From watching a Star Wars movie at home, to bringing your light saber to work, there are many ways to celebrate Star Ways Day. Don’t miss this chance to recognize arguably the most popular science fiction series of all time.
Embrace Your Geekness Day (July 12)
There’s no right or wrong way to embrace your inner geek. Maybe it’s speaking in lots of computer jardon, or maybe it’s wearing your pants really, really high. Watch some old episodes of Family Matters for inspiration. That Urkel character can probably teach you a thing or two.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19)
Ahoy, matey! Believe it or not, there’s actually a day dedicated to talking like a pirate. This might lead to some argghhuments, but nothing that can’t be resolved with a little rum and booty.
Bake Cookies Day (December 18)
It’s hard to argue with the merits of this unofficial holiday. Bake Cookies Day is an awesome time to show your friends and family that you’re keeping them in mind (and mouth) this holiday season.HomeFirstTM Certified manages 9 of the best places to live in Michigan.
