The words “hungry” and “hurry” do not belong in the same sentence. Here are 6 healthy snacks that will satisfy your angry appetite.  Next time you’re hungry and in a hurry, avoid fast food restaurants and pick up (or quickly prepare) one of these following on-the-go snacks:


Packed with nutrition, apples are crunchy and delicious right down to the core. Apples are low in calories and don’t contain saturated fat or cholesterol. They are also a good source of vitamin C, a powerful natural antioxidant, and beta-carotene and other vitamins. Apples even make your teeth whiter. All these reasons make apples the ultimate on-the-go food.


While not all popcorn is healthy (namely that salty, buttery, processed kind you find in movie theaters), it can actually be quite nutritious. Air popped popcorn is low in calories and carbs, and provides a good source of whole grains. This makes popcorn a great alternative to a greasy bag of chips.

Carrots and Hummus

When it comes satisfying your stomach, carrots and hummus are a winning combination. Carrots are loaded with Vitamin A, which is very good for your vision, while hummus is loaded with protein and healthy fats. If you don’t like carrots, hummus with peppers or celery is another delicious combination.

Dark Chocolate

If your sweet tooth needs a little lovin’, a few squares of dark chocolate are the perfect answer. Dark chocolate boosts your ‘good’ HDL cholesterol level and contains natural ingredients that can help you lower your blood pressure. Plus, dark chocolate tastes great!

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is low in calories and rich in fiber. It’s also a good source of B-12, which gives you energy, and calcium, which strengthens your bones. Sprinkle in some healthy blueberries to add flavor and even more nutritional value.


If you’re operating on an empty stomach, pick up a bag of nuts…but not just any nuts. Almonds, cashews and pistachios are best for an empty stomach because their mix of fatty acids, protein and fiber will make you feel full. Avoid pecans and macadamia nuts, which don’t have enough nutritional value to compensate for all the calories.
