Michigan Apples

Ingredients:

4 Medium-Sized Apples (Any type of apple good for baking will work, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, or Jonathan are all good choices)

¼ Cup Brown Sugar (Light or dark will work)

¼ Cup Rolled Oats

1 tsp. Cinnamon

Butter

1 Cup Hot Water

1 Cup Apple Juice (Optional)

Vanilla Ice Cream (Optional)

Pre-heat your oven to 350⁰. Core your apples, being careful to not remove the bottoms of the apples. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, rolled oats, and oatmeal and spoon the mixture into the apples. Make sure the mixture is packed in firmly and top each apple with a small pat of butter. Place the apples in a baking pan (8”x8” works well for a 4 apple batch) and add 1 cup of hot water to the pan to keep the apples from drying out. You can also use a cup of apple juice to give them a little extra flavor. Bake the apples at 350⁰ for 30-40 minutes. When they’re done, the skin of the apples should be wrinkled and soft. Let them cool slightly before serving. Baked apples are delicious by themselves, but a little bit of vanilla ice cream on the side makes a wonderful addition.
